Gunfight breaks out as forces establish contact with militants in Jammu forests

A gunfight broke out on Thursday after the government forces established contact with the militants who had escaped into forests yesterday in Jhajjar Kotli area of Jammu.

Reports said that exchange of fire started following a massive search operation launched by the forces in the area yesterday morning.

   

“The firing is going on from the both sides,” a police official said.

On Wednesday, a joint search operation to track suspected militants, who managed to flee after opening fire at a naka party at Jajjar Kotli area of Jammu, continued for the second day.

Police had intercepted a truck at a motel and during the search one suspected militant opened fire before escaping into the nearby forest area.

The district administration Udhampur also ordered the closure of schools and other educational institutions within the Tikri Zone  on Thursday as a precautionary measure.
