Hurriyat supports militants' role

Greater Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 13: Reacting to the recent developments over Kashmir issue following Pugwash Conference in Pakistan, the Hurriyat Conference on Monday said it supports the involvement of militants in the talks process. It also called the mainstream politicians who attended the conference and supported the Kashmir cause to support the Hurriyat in solving the vexed issue.
A party statement here said the decisions were taken during a meeting chaired by the party head Mirwaiz Umar Farooq here.
The statement said the way pro Indian leadership urged in Pakistan that the Kashmir issue should be solved as per the aspirations of the Kashmiris reflected a clear change in their conventional stand.
Hurriyat Conference “believes that the time has arrived when these people on return should reject the pro-Indian policy and invest their power for a solution as per the aspirations of Kashmiris.”
“The people who were and are involved in the killings of Kashmiris are now talking of demilitarization and self rule and say that Kashmiris should be given right to self determination,” the party said adding that it “all had become possible due to the great sacrifices offered by the people.”
Hurriyat, the statement said welcomes this stand and invests hope that on return from Pakistan “these people as usual wouldn’t change their stand to resort their customary policy but would support Hurriyat Conference for the solution.”
