IGP reviews security situation in Poonch

In order to take stock of security scenario especially after recent busting of a militant module, the Inspector General of Police, Jammu, Mukesh Singh on Monday visited Mendhar sub division of Poonch district.

IGP Jammu, accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police for RajouriPoonch range, Vivek Gupta reached Mendhar on Monday afternoon where he held a security review meeting with senior officers of police and army.

   

SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral among other territorial officers of Poonch district briefed IGP Jammu about prevailing security situation in the area especially in wake of regular ceasefire violations and mortar shelling.

He also examined the grenades, arms, ammunition, posters, flags and other increment material recovered from three militant associates who had been arrested a week ago in Mendhar.

Talking to media persons, IGP Jammu Mukesh Singh said that army and police in recent times have achieved success with arrest of many new militant associates operating in the area and recovering a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and grenades from them.

“Border area Mendhar is peaceful from last around ten years in terms of militancy activities but attempts are being made to lure youth into militancy and to disturb the atmosphere.” IGP Jammu said.

Officer added that militant outfits had plans to target some vital security establishments and religious places which was a sensitive issue but prompt action by forces foiled these nefarious designs of militants.

IGP Jammu also confirmed about inputs of assembly of militants’ to launch pads across LoC who can attempt to infiltrate. “Army and Police are on high alert to foil any such plan.”
