Improve functioning of SDH Mandi, demand locals

The residents of Mandi, Saujiyan and Loran belts of Poonch district have underlined the need to improve functioning of sub-district hospital (SDH) Mandi, citing unavailability of medicines as the prime concern.

They said, “The entire population of Mandi, Saujiyan and Loran is dependent on Mandi hospital for healthcare services, which are not satisfactory right now.”

Munir Ahmed, a resident of Saujiyan, told Greater Kashmir: “A doctor in Mandi hospital refused to accept the results of a test conducted in the hospital laboratory. He asked for the tests to be conducted from a private laboratory.”

“A government doctor insisting upon getting tests conducted from private laboratories clearly hints towards something fishy,” he alleged.

Abdul Jabbar, a resident of Chamber Kanari, alleged, “On May 11, my wife, Masra Begum, was admitted in Mandi hospital. The doctors provided poor treatment, due to which my wife delivered a dead baby. They killed my child.”

He claimed that he lodged a police complaint, “but nothing has been done yet”.

Station house officer, Mandi, Ravinder Rakwal, confirmed that a complaint has been lodged against a doctor. “We are currently investigating the issue,” he said.

On being contacted, Block Medical Officer, Mandi, Dr Sayeed Mushtaq Hussain Shah, claimed that he inquired the incident regarding a newborn’s death, but the doctor termed the allegations as baseless.
