Improve functioning of SDH Mandi, demand locals

The residents of Mandi, Saujiyan and Loran belts of Poonch district have underlined the need to improve functioning of sub-district hospital (SDH) Mandi, citing unavailability of medicines as the prime concern.

They said, “The entire population of Mandi, Saujiyan andLoran is dependent on Mandi hospital for healthcare services, which are notsatisfactory right now.”

   

Munir Ahmed, a resident of Saujiyan, told Greater Kashmir:”A doctor in Mandi hospital refused to accept the results of a test conductedin the hospital laboratory. He asked for the tests to be conducted from aprivate laboratory.”

“A government doctor insisting upon getting tests conductedfrom private laboratories clearly hints towards something fishy,” he alleged.

Abdul Jabbar, a resident of Chamber Kanari, alleged, “On May11, my wife, Masra Begum, was admitted in Mandi hospital. The doctors providedpoor treatment, due to which my wife delivered a dead baby. They killed mychild.”

He claimed that he lodged a police complaint, “but nothinghas been done yet”.

Station house officer, Mandi, Ravinder Rakwal, confirmedthat a complaint has been lodged against a doctor. “We are currentlyinvestigating the issue,” he said.

On being contacted, Block Medical Officer, Mandi, Dr SayeedMushtaq Hussain Shah, claimed that he inquired the incident regarding anewborn’s death, but the doctor termed the allegations as baseless.
