Inter-state border sealed at Lakhanpur

At least 700 travelers have been quarantined at Kathua following closure of the border with Punjab.

“The inter-state border atLakhanpur is sealed. All entrants to be sent to quarantine at Kathua,” twittedgovernment spokesperson Rohit Kansal.

   

He requested people fortheir cooperation to help in fight against Coronavirus.

Those under quarantineinclude youth, elderly women and children. “People are cooperating with policeand administration. We may require more centers. Those unhappy with thelocation of centers were accommodated accordingly,” said SSP Kathua, ShailndraMishra.

The police officer saidthey have arranged food and other requirements by quarantined people.

Following the closure ofthe border, hundreds of people, mostly residents of Kashmir had approachedauthorities at Lakhanpur with request to allow them enter J&K.

However these people wereshifted to quarantine centers. An eyewitness said members of Sikh communityhave been providing eatables to the stranded people.

Meanwhile, there wascomplete restriction on movement of people in Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri,Poonch, and other districts for the fourth consecutive day.

Udhampur Deputy Commissiorhas ordered delivery of ration at doorsteps, and asked the shopkeepers to dropgoods at doorsteps on requests made on phone calls.

The administration hassought help of volunteers willing to work alongside men on the ground tocontain Coronavirus spread.

In Rajouri and Poonchdistricts, except for the business establishments notified under essentialcommodities, all other establishments remained closed.

An official said peoplewere allowed to come out of their houses in lesser number to purchase essentialcommodities.

At several places, policedrew circles on roads outside ATMs and medical shops to advise people onmaintaining social distance.

Police laid barbed wires onroads and set up nakas at multiple places to enforce restrictions. Movement ofvehicles on roads including Jammu-Rajouri highway was also strictly restricted.

Similarly in Poonch,another official said, the towns remained under strict restrictions and policeused barbed wires to enforce restrictions.

District Magistrate,Rajouri Muhammad Nazir Sheikh appealed people to play pivotal role in ensuringrestrictions.

The District Magistrate,Poonch Rahul Yadav also appealed people to show constructive approach in theprevailing situation.
