An interstate gang of narcotic smugglers has been busted and seven persons nabbed in connection to it, police said here Saturday.
“The war against drugs has been continued and recently police busted a big gang of interstate gang of seven peddlers who were found in possession of 1650 grams of Heroin-like substance,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Tajinder Singh said during a press conference here.
He said the drug consignment had originated from Kashmir and was to be delivered in Punjab with the help of gang members from the neighboring state.
Singh revealed that 68 persons have been nabbed in May alone in 39 cases lodged under the NDPS Act.
The seven arrested in the latest case were identified as Mohd Iqbal Wani and Nisar Ahmed Ganai both residents of Chewakalan in Pulwama district, Ashraf Bhat of Marhama Sangam and Sanjay Kumar of Anandpur Bishnahin Jammu, all from J&K.
The other three arrested were identified as Kulvinder Kour of Pungar Hoshiarpur, Seema Rani of Phillaur Jalandhar, Rajkumar of Pathankot Chani, all from Punjab.
“Three vehicles in which they were travelling (JK03D 0496 – swift desire; JK 02BK 7040 – Wagon R; PB07AE 6645 – VW POLO) along with contraband were seized,” Singh said, adding a FIR no. 157 /2019 u/s 8/21/29 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bahu Fort.
The SSP further said that this year so far 134 drug-peddling cases have been registered under the NDPS Act, entailing arrest of 205 persons.
