Inter-state gang of narcotic smugglers busted, 7 nabbed

An interstate gang of narcotic smugglers has been busted and seven persons nabbed in connection to it, police said here Saturday.

“The war against drugs has been continued and recentlypolice busted a big gang of interstate gang of seven peddlers who were found inpossession of 1650 grams of Heroin-like substance,” Senior Superintendent ofPolice, Jammu, Tajinder Singh said during a press conference here.

   

He said the drug consignment had originated from Kashmir andwas to be delivered in Punjab with the help of gang members from theneighboring state.

Singh revealed that 68 persons have been nabbed in May alonein 39 cases lodged under the NDPS Act.

The seven arrested in the latest case were identified asMohd Iqbal Wani and Nisar Ahmed Ganai both residents of Chewakalan in Pulwamadistrict, Ashraf Bhat of Marhama Sangam and Sanjay Kumar of Anandpur BishnahinJammu, all from J&K.

The other three arrested were identified as Kulvinder Kourof Pungar Hoshiarpur, Seema Rani of Phillaur Jalandhar, Rajkumar of PathankotChani, all from Punjab.

“Three vehicles in which they were travelling (JK03D 0496 –swift desire; JK 02BK 7040 – Wagon R; PB07AE 6645 – VW POLO) along withcontraband were seized,” Singh said, adding a FIR no. 157 /2019 u/s 8/21/29NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bahu Fort.

The SSP further said that this year so far 134 drug-peddlingcases have been registered under the NDPS Act, entailing arrest of 205 persons.

“We have sincerely tried to step up our action against drugmenace and will continue to intensify our efforts in this direction. We requireyour support and cooperation,” Singh said.
