More than 40 hutments were gutted in a massive blaze RS Pura area of Jammu on Sunday, police said.
Fire broke out in Tibba area of Badyal Brahmana during wee hours today in which more than 40 kullas (hutments) were gutted, said an official.
He said five fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames.
The cause of the fire is being ascertained, he said.
Senior National Conference leader and Member legislative Assembly Kangan Mian Altaf Ahmad has expressed grief and sorrow over the massive fire incident in the Gujjar basti.
He asked the state government to provide immediate relief to all the affected people.
“The state government should immediately compensate and rehabilitate the affected families” he said, in the statement.
