Jammu duo arrested by Delhi police in Red Fort violence

Angry protesters Tuesday blocked Jammu-Pathankot highway at Satwari, following the arrest of two persons, including a farmer leader, for their alleged role in Red Fort violence on Republic Day.

The duo namely Mohinder Singh, 45, president of J&K United Kisan Front, hailing from Chatha in Satwari and Mandeep Singh, 23,  a resident of Gole Gujral, Jammu were picked up by Delhi Police from Jammu late last night.

   

Following their arrest, eyewitnesses said, large number of people came out of their homes and staged a protest demonstration late last night. They resumed the protest this morning.

“The protesters staged dharna blocking vehicular traffic at Digiana for 2 hours,” said a police officer. The officer said, “We have not picked them. However, a team of Delhi Police reached here and they took them,” the officer added.

He further said that the protesters, who were demanding the release of arrested persons, were pacified by the civil administration. Later, they dispersed peacefully.
