Jammu records season’s hottest day at 43.5 C

The Jammu city reeled under heat wave conditions on Tuesday, as it recorded the season’s hottest day.

An official of Meteorological department told Greater Kashmir that the maximum temperature recorded in Jammu on Tuesday was 43.5 degree Celsius-4.4 notches above the normal (39.1 degree Celsius). He said that the night temperature also shot by 0.9 degree Celsius above normal. It was recorded at 25.8 degree Celsius.

   

The weatherman said that the people of Jammu will not get any respite from the prevailing heat wave conditions for around 5-6 days more. “Rather the temperature will rise gradually by 0.2 to 0.4 notches everyday,” he said.

He however said that the day and night temperature can drop by certain degrees subject to regional disturbances.

Katra, the base camp for the pilgrims visiting the Cave Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi in Reasi district, also witnessed rise in the day and night temperature.

The weatherman said that the day temperature in the town was recorded at 40.7 degree Celsius, around 5.1 notches above normal (35.6 degree Celsius) while the night temperature in the town was recorded at 24.4 degree Celsius, which was also up by 2.8 degrees as the normal night temperature was 21.8 degree Celsius.

Banihal town in Ramban district was the coldest in Jammu province as the day temperature in the town was recorded at 30.1 degree Celsius, 2.5 notches above normal (27.6 degree Celsius). The night temperature however dipped in Banihal by 1.3 degrees below the normal due to rains. It was recorded at 10.9 degree Celsius and the normal temperature was recorded at 12.2 degree Celsius.

Meanwhile, in view of the blistering heat, most of the people preferred to stay indoors and lesser movement of vehicles was seen on the roads. With this, most of the city areas witnessed unscheduled power cuts.
