Justice Bilal Nazki inaugurates UGC course on Human Rights

A three week UGC refresher course for university and college teachers on Human Rights, being organized by Jammu University (JU) Human Resource Development Centre, was inaugurated today by Justice Bilal Nazki, Chairman, J&K State Human Rights Commission.

Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice-Chancellor (VC), University of Jammu, was also present on the occasion.

   

While speaking on the occasion, Prof Manoj Dhar emphasized upon the need for organizing such refresher courses for teachers.

He highlighted the importance of Human Rights in the progression of civil society and called upon the teachers to make the best use of this opportunity in order to upgrade their knowledge.

Justice Bilal Nazki, in his presidential address, expressed happiness that the University of Jammu through this UGC Course would be orienting teachers from various subjects on the important issues on human rights  in the contemporary times.

Justice Nazki called for augmenting the efforts for creating awareness about human rights in the society.

“Human beings tend to carry baggage which is usually entrusted by our families and other situational factors. We should all be conscious of our rights and should try to live in ways that do not harm others,” Justice Nazki added.

Earlier, the dignitaries were welcomed by Prof JPS Joorel, Director, HRDC. Dr Samriddhi Arora, Course Coordinator, gave a brief overview about the course and the various areas of study that would be covered in the refresher course.

Dr. Sarika Manhas (co- coordinator of the course) introduced the chief guest of the occasion to the audience.

She highlighted the relevance of Human Rights in our state. Ranjit Kalra, teaching faculty, HRDC, JU, presented formal vote of thanks.

The program was conducted by Kirti, research scholar of the Department of Home Science.

Prominent among others who were present on the occasion were, Jung Bhadur Singh, retired Session Judge, J&K High Court and member, J&K State Human Rights Commission, Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Prof. Neeru Sharma, Prof. Shashi Manhas, Head,Department of Home Science.
