Keerian–Gandyal on J&K-Punjab border witness bumper polling

Six villages falling in two panchayats of Keerian and Gandyal, which are sandwiched between the inter-state border and the Ravi witnessed a 84 percent turnout in second phase of Lok Sabha election.

The two panchayats fall in Kathua Assembly constituency ofthe district.

   

Chak Devia, Chumber and Mehatab and Keerian villages fall inKeerian panchayat while  Gandyal andRamnagar villages are in Gandyal panchayat. As per election commission, numberof votes in all six villages is 3404 while 2859 was polled during the day.

People of Keerian and Gandyal are jubilant over constructionof 1210-meter interstate Keerian Gandyal Bridge over the river Ravi, which hasreduced their journey time to the district headquarters from two hours to 10minutes.

Due to the lack of road connectivity and a bridge on theRavi, people used to face lot of hardships in reaching district headquartersfor minor works.
