Ladakh Buddhist Association removes president over molestation charges

Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) today removed its president TsewangThinles, who is facing charges of sexual assault on a teenage girl.

The Central Working Committee of Ladakh Buddhist Associationheld an emergency meeting and expressed shock over “unfortunate alleged act ofshame on the part of TsewangThinles.”

   

“The news of FIR lodged in Women police station Leh againstTsewangThinless, President, Ladakh Buddhist Association, Leh in an allegedcriminal molestation came as an extreme shock to the Buddhist community ofLadakh,” a statement issued by General Secretary LBA reads.

“Consequently the Central Working Committee of LadakhBuddhist Association met and unanimously condemned the alleged criminal act ofthe TsewangThinles,” it added.

“The president was expelled from the post and LadakhBuddhist Association dissociates itself from the TsewangThinles henceforth andhis membership from General Council is also declared vacant,” the statementfurther reads.

CWC further decided that the senior Vice President P. T.Kunzang will function as President of Ladakh Buddhist Association till thetenure of the present General Council in the overall interest of theorganisation.

The CWC also demanded for a free and fair trial of the casethrough fast track court.

Earlier, President Ladakh Buddhist Association was bookedunder Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case.

As per police sources, a complaint was lodged by a teenagegirl with Women Police Station here stating sexual assault on her by TsewangThinles.

Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 5/19under section 354, 354-A RPC and 9(L)/10 POCSO Act has been registered at WomenPolice Station Leh and investigation started.
