The last rites of six soldiers of Dogra Regiment were performed at their native villages after a wreath laying ceremony was held at Satwari cantonment here.

The troops and their families accorded emotional farewell to the six soldiers killed in Thursday’s militant attack in Manipur.

As per a defence spokesperson, mortal remains of seven soldiers reached from Imphal in a special aircraft at Air Force Station Jammu from where they were sent to their respective native villages for last rites. One of the soldier- Sepoy Manjeet Singh was from Pathankot Punjab.

The soldiers from Jammu who were slain in the attack included Naib Subedar Ram Singh of Swankha More, Vijaypur; Havaldar Satpal Bhasin of Muthi Jammu; Havaldar Randeep Singh of Bomal Akhnoor; Lance Naik Kuldeep Raj of Burn Jammu; Sepoy Vijay Kumar of Serh Akhnoor and Havaldar Sunil Kumar of Sunderbani.

Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh attended funeral of Havaldar Satpal Bhasin at Muthi and later met his family.

He assured full support to the families in their hour of grief and praised the soldiers for bravery in defending their motherland.
