Move employees to continue boycotting work, demand safety of families

The Darbar move employees on Monday decided to continue boycotting their duties till the situation is brought under control in Jammu.

State president of the Darbar Move (non-secretariat) employees’ federation Owais Wani said they won’t resume their duties until the administration ensures safety of their families putting up at government quarters in Jammu.

“Yesterday, around eight petrol bombs were hurled at the quarters of Kashmiri employees which has frightened our families. We can’t leave our families alone and join duties. Our families are not secure here,” Wani said, adding that a vehicle parked outside the quarter caught fire but the flames were doused immediately to avoid the damage to the car.

“Unless safety of our families is ensured, we won’t go to offices.”

The move employees’ federation had earlier stated that they will boycott duties on Monday citing insecurity.

He appealed to the divisional administration Jammu to arrange transport facilities for their families to ferry them home in Kashmir.

“The irony is that the curfew imposed by the administration is symbolic. Miscreants are roaming here and attack our quarters in the evening,” he said.

He said they were running short of essential commodities and were not able to feed their families.

Wani also accused the administration of giving free hand to miscreants to create law and order problem in Jammu. “They are now visiting families putting up in government quarters but failed to handle the situation at the beginning,” he said.
