Need to step-up our peace efforts: DGP Dilbag Singh

On the second day of his visit to Kashmir, the Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh Tuesday visited northern Kashmir districts and took a review of security scenario and preparedness on law and order situation.

The DGP, accompanied by IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, firstvisited Kupwara where he was received by SSP Kupwara Ambarkar Shriram Dinkarand other officers.

   

The DC Kupwara, AnshulGarg, Dinkar and other jurisdictional officers apprised the DGP about overallsecurity situation and measures taken to maintain peace and order.

Later,the DGP visited 15-RR Headquarters at Vilgam Handwara where he was received byofficiating commandant Lt Col Amit Rawat and SP Handwara, GV SundeepChakravarthy who briefed the DGP regarding the security scenario.

The DGP later visited 19th Division Baramulla where heinteracted with officers of Police, Army, CRPF and BSF.

Major General Singh briefed the DGP about security situationalong the Line of Control (LoC) and hinterland.

The SSP Baramulla, AbdulQayoom, Commandant 40th Battalion, BSF, VK Kasana, CO, CRPF 53rd BattalionVijay Kumar, and Addl SP Baramulla Mukesh Kakkar also apprised the DGP aboutthe security scenario.

TheDGP while addressing the officers’ meetings complimented the forces for theirwork.

“Although the militant activities have been brought down,forces have to remain on constant vigil and alert so that any evil attempt todisrupt peace is effectively foiled,” said the DGP. “We need to consolidatenormalcy and peace by engaging people particularly youth for achieving goals ofprosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.”

The DGP said safety and security of people was prime concernand directed security of vulnerable places and persons be beefed up as per therequirement.

He said Pakistan was continuously looking to foment troublein J&K by pushing militants, but their attempts will be foiled.

Singh stressed for community policing and said police-publicmeetings at local levels should be conducted to redress grievances of thepeople.

The DGP visited policestation Vilgam where SHO, Inspector, Suleiman briefed him about functioning ofpolice in its jurisdiction.

TheDGP directed the officers to take effective measures to check drug tracking. Hedirected the officers to book the elements involved in the menace under PublicSafety Act.

The DGP interacted with officer and personnel of police,ITBP, SSB and CRPF.
