The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are making joint efforts to woo the independent MLAs to ensure victory of their respective candidates in the forthcoming RajyaSabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

“All the independent MLAs are in our constant touch, and apart from that, as part of a strategy, certain people have been assigned the task to reach out to the independents who could play a crucial role in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections,” reliable sources within the BJP informed Greater Kashmir.

“It was only after calculations and tactical understanding, and keeping in view the electoral college, that the BJP and PDP confidently fielded 2 candidates each for elections to the Upper House of Parliament”, senior BJP leader and National Executive Member, DrNirmal Singh, informed Greater Kashmir.

“At present, our prime focus is the Rajya Sabha election, and ensure the victory of all our candidates,” Dr Singh said, adding, “I can’t say anything about the calculation of other parties, but we have the numbers with us and all our candidates will be through.”

He added, “Right people have been assigned the task and they are on their job.”

When specifically asked whether the independent MLAs are from Jammu or Kashmir, he said, “Apart from 2 MLAs of SajjadLone’s Peoples Conference who are with us, it is not appropriate to mention others at this point in time.”

It has been reliably learnt that union minister DrJitender Singh had convened a meeting of the party’s Core Group a couple of days back, during which the strategy regarding RajyaSabha elections was discussed.

On the directions of the high command, some members were also assigned the task of reaching out to independent MLAs.
