NIA gets 9-day remand of deputy jailer

A TADA court sent Feroz Ahmed Lone, deputy jailer of district jail, Ambphalla, to 9 days National Investigating Agency (NIA) remand. Lone has been charged with hatching a conspiracy, waging war against the country by helping the Hizb militants cross the LoC and get arms training in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). The case that led to the arrest of Lone is particularly called as KupwaraHizb-Mujahideen conspiracy.

He, along with one IshfaqPalla, a prisoner, was arrested by the NIA on Tuesday from the district jail itself. A day after his arrest, on Wednesday, the NIA team produced the deputy jailer of Ambphalla jail before the TADA court in Jammu and sought his 9-day remand.

   

The court accordingly sent him to 9-day NIA remand for further questioning. IshfaqPalla, the other accused in the KupwaraHizb-Mujahideen conspiracy, has also been remanded to 10 days NIA custody by a special NIA court in Jammu.

According to Inspector General of police, NIA, Alok Mittal, the case that led to the arrest of deputy jailer of Jammu jail pertains to an attempt by the accused persons, Suhail Ahmed Bhat and Danish Ahmed Lone, who were arrested earlier, to travel to PoK for arms training with the intent of waging war against the State.

“During searches, in October 2017 in ManigahHyhama area of Kupwara, two youth including Lone, a resident of BrahBadna and Bhat of Dogripora, both in Pulwama district were arrested,” Mittal told Greater Kashmir.

He said they (arrested youth) were motivated by IshfaqPalla. At the time of incident, Palla was lodged in Central prison Srinagar in different case and he was instrumental in hatching the conspiracy from jail.

“In this conspiracy, Palla was actively assisted by Feroz Ahmed Lone, who was posted as deputy jail superintendent, central jail Srinagar at the time,” the police officer said.
