No further extension in winter vacations: Ganai

Governor’s advisor Khursheed Ahmad Ganai, who holds the charge of the education department, Wednesday ruled out further extension in winter vacations beyond March 9.

Chairing a high-level meeting here, which was attended byvice-chancellors, college principals, controller of examinations and directorschool education Kashmir, the advisor asked them to make preparations forstarting the class work from March 11.

   

An official spokesman said that threadbare discussions wereheld regarding rescheduling of examinations and the advisor directed that theexaminations be conducted as “per the schedule”.

“In case of law and order situation, the roll number cardswill be treated as curfew passes to ensure that the examinations are nothampered,” the spokesman said, adding: “The meeting laid stress on the need forclose coordination between law-enforcement agencies and educationalinstitutions during examinations for making adequate security arrangements.”

The advisor enjoined upon the principals to ensure that thestudies of students are not affected and asked them to take extra classes, ifnecessary, to make up for the academic losses.

He urged the vice-chancellors to coordinate among themselvesand take appropriate decisions in the interest of the smooth functioning ofuniversities and colleges.

“The college principals assured the advisor and VCs of fullcooperation for the benefit of the students,” the spokesman said, adding thatthe divisional commissioner, DIG Kashmir and deputy commissioner Srinagarassured that adequate arrangements will be made available “whenever requestedfor conduct of examinations (sic).”
