Northern Railways have converted six coaches of a train at Jammu Railway Station into isolation wards for COVID 19 patients.

As per the officials, eight coaches in total are to be converted as centers to cure COVID-19 infected persons.

The officials said that the step is taken to help Health Department in containing the spread of deadly virus in Jammu and Kashmir.

So far, six coaches have been made ready to use, and two will be ready in coming days, said an official.

“We are in talks with the Health Department of J&K Government. They have projected requirement of eight coaches which will be fully equipped,” said Chaten Taneja, Divisional Traffic Manager, Northern Railways.

Taneja said “So far we have not handed over any of the coaches to the Health Department. These things are yet to be worked out,” he said.

Northern Railways and Health Department will mutually run these isolation ward/quarantine center by deploying doctors, paramedical staff and the required medicines.

As many as eight patients can be treated in one bogey in separate cabins, the official said.
