Notorious criminal slapped with PSA, sent to jail

A 33-year-old notorious criminal, arrested last week in Samba district after a long hunt, has been charged under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) and sent to jail, police said today.

The accused who was wanted in nearly a dozen cases, was arrested from Basanter area on July 10 and was sent to sub-jail Hiranagar in Kathua district, a police spokesman said. He said the accused was the mastermind behind all organised crimes in Samba such as drug smuggling and cattle theft. “A total of 11 cases, mostly related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, are registered against him in the district,” the spokesman said.
