NPP holds protest against 'power crisis' in Jammu region

He warned the Power Development Department to face the music of an enraged public in case the regular and un-interrupted power supply was not restored at the earliest.

Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today staged a massive protest demonstration against the unprecedented power cuts and huge voltage fluctuations in the Jammu region here  outside the Press Club.

As per a press release, led by Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP,  Balwant Singh Mankotia, State President JKNPP and  Yashpal Kundal State President Young Panthers, the protestors torched an effigy of the BJP and raised   slogans against Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh and BJP.

The protestors were also  demanding end to power curtailment.

Harsh Dev Singh while addressing the media regretted that the acute power crisis has not only made the life of a common man miserable in the towns and cities but also in the hinterland and remote areas in the summer season.

He warned the Power Development Department to face the music of an enraged public in case the regular and un-interrupted power supply was not restored at the earliest.

Expressing resentment over  ‘deprivation of a basic civic amenity like power’, Singh said that an   unconcerned attitude of the PDD has made the people of Jammu to suffer the worst hardships in the prevailing scorching heat and soaring humidity   with no respite from scheduled and unscheduled power cuts. He added that the students and scholars are the worst sufferers particularly those preparing for  various examinations. He regretted that despite persistent appeals to the government to comply with the scheduled calendar on power supply and the repeated assurances of the State government, no action has been taken by the latter thus making the people’s life a living                                                hell.

Alleging  ‘discrimination with Jammu region’ in the power sector,  Singh said that region has been the major sufferer at the hands of the BJP partnered government and its ministers including the Dy. Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh who is holding the portfolio of Power Development. in the State remain mere silent spectators in the face of an adversity by succumbing to the dictates of the Kashmiri leaders. Lambasting the  govt.

“The power consumption between Jammu and Kashmir regions is in the proportion of 40:60 respectively but when it comes to revenue realization, Jammu shares more than 66% of power tariff while paltry 34% come from Kashmir province” he claimed . He further alleged  that the power supply to Jammu region has been further curtailed during 2015-16 ‘due to highly prejudicial and callous approach of those sitting at the helm of the affairs’. Harsh said that the people of Jammu, who are reeling under severe power crisis, would strongly oppose the discriminatory treatment doled out to them and soon blow the fuse of the “power hungry” BJP in the days to come.

Cautioning the Deputy Chief Minister to ensure un-interrupted power supply in Jammu, he advised him to learn a lesson from the government of New Delhi which has set an example by effecting a drastic reduction in power tariff besides ensuring a regular power supply in the State.
