On Hari Singh’s birth anniversary, volunteers brandish swords in Jammu rallies

Volunteers of Yuva Rajput Sabha allegedly brandished swords, guns and other weapons in Jammu during rallies held as part of celebrations on the 124th birth anniversary of J&K’s last Dogra monarch Maharaja Hari Singh.

People in thousands participated in over two dozen functions held across Jammu. Members of Yuva Rajput Sabha allegedly brandished 12-bore guns during the procession in Jammu city.

“There were some sounds during celebrations at Ambphalla Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Tawi crossing but can’t be sure whether they were gunfire or crackers,” a top police official, who accompanied rallies as protections said.

The main function was organized by BJP MLA Lal Singh headed Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan (DSS) and Yuva Rajput Sabha, wherein hundreds of people participated and celebrated the birthday of Hari Singh.

Addressing the gathering at Hari Palace after culminating of his 100 kilometer rally, which earlier had started from Lakhanpur, Lal Singh said, “Jammu paid the price of Hari Singh’s utterance in Round Table Conference in the House of Lords in London in 1931.”

Among 560 rulers, who supported the cause of India’s independence at the Round Table Conference in the House of Lords in London in 1931, Hari Singh was alone who lauded “I am an Indian first, and then a Maharaja” and “after his open support to India he became victim of conspiracy hatched by Britishers”.

“We are paying the price of supporting India but we will continue to do so, as our Maharaja has shown us this right path,” Singh said.

Lal Singh said all limits of “discrimination” against Jammu have been crossed. “Now people are awakening and Dogra will snatch their legitimate rights”.

“We (Dogra) know how to create a state and how to run it without any conflict, if injustice continues with Jammu, Dogra’s know how to snatch our rights,” Singh said.

Singh also appealed people to shun petty differences based on cast, creed or religion and unite.
