Police arrest fake journalist, recover microphone, forged ID

The local police claimed to have arrested a fake journalist and recovered a microphone, logos and forged I-Cards from his possession on Friday. The man was allegedly terrorising government officials and public, by trying to extort money.

The police said, “We received a tip-off that a man from Danggernallah Chingam in Tehsil Chatroo was approaching and threatening government officials of different departments, including CAPD, RDD and PHE. He was telling them that he would file press reports of embezzlements and misappropriation against them, if they fail to pay him the desired money. We arrested him in Chatroo and recovered a microphone, an ID and logos of Take-1 channel from him.”

When contacted by the police, the management at Take-1 channel said that they did not have any person with the said details in Kishtwar. After investigations, the police came to know that the process of extortion had been going on since 5 months.

The Senior Superintendent of Police Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary, while addressing the press, said that the accused has interviewed many important people so far and the police had received complaints of harassment by officials.

The SSP appealed to the general public and all officials to inform the police immediately in such cases.
