Police book Talib for attempting suicide within lockup

Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday booked activist Talib Choudhary in yet another case, this time for attempting suicide within the lockup.

A police official said that Talib has been booked in case FIR number 215/2018 under section 309 of the RPC at Samba police station.

As per sources, at around 1415 hours, Talib refused to have lunch at the lockup claiming it was not worth consuming and started hitting his forehead against the walls of the lockup, thus injuring him.

“Accordingly, he was taken to district hospital Samba for treatment and later booked for attempting suicide within the lockup,” they said.

Talib was arrested last week by Samba police after he was booked in case FIR number 211/2018 under section 376 RPC and 4/25 Arms Act.

Neither SSP Samba, Anil Magotra nor SHO Samba, Chanchal Singh were available for comments.

It’s in place to mention here that Talib Hussain spearheaded the campaign to seek justice for the 8-year old Kathua girl, who was gang raped and murdered in Rasana village of Kathua district earlier this year.
