In a unique initiative, police in Jammu city are introducing freepick-and-drop service for women who are struck somewhere during night hours.
In view of increasing crime against women,the pick-and-drop service aided with a helpline will start from Sunday eveningin the Jammu city.
Under this service, the women who are stuck somewhere or theirvehicles develop some problem can call police control room on1091 or 100 from10 pm to 5 am to seek the free service.

“We have established coordinated effort between the concerned SHOsin Jammu City and PCR vans so that distressed women can be helped duringnight,” said SSP Jammu, Tajinder Singh while speaking to media.
“DySPShwatambri will beNodal Officer and we have also appointed some women constables to accompany thedistressed women during night to drop them at their respective destinations,”he added.
He said that after every five minutes, the distressed caller womenwill be checked if she is all-right and reached her destination safely.
Sharing details regarding women issues in the city, the SSP toldmedia that they had registered 319 FIRs in Jammu district the year.
Out of these 319FIRs, he said, they have disposed off 159 FIRs and 160 FIRs are still underinvestigation. “The stalkers and harasser of women will be dealt strictly underlaw,” the SSP Jammu warned.
