Police seize camera-fitted drone hovering over Kishtwar jail

Police on Wednesday seized a China-made camera-fitted drone that hit a watchtower of Kishtwar district jail while hovering over it, officials said.

An investigation was underway into the drone crash thatoccurred around 5:35pm at the highly fortified Kishtwar jail housing 101inmates, 25 of them suspected militants.

   

“Jail Superintendent informed us about crash of drone. Wereached that spot with experts and seized the gadget for furtherinvestigation,” said Shakti Kumar Pathak, Senior Superintendent of Police,Kishtwar.

“It is a small sized drone and not looking so sophisticatedbut it has a camera fitted in it and it hovered over jail premises, so we haveto take it seriously,” Pathak said, adding investigators were looking at allpossible angles.

Jail Superintendent, Muhammad Iqbal, said that drone crashedagainst one of the watchtowers of the jail and fell down.

“The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel manningthe watchtowers immediately cordoned the area and informed the senior jailofficials and the police,” said Iqbal.
