Police on Wednesday seized a China-made camera-fitted drone that hit a watchtower of Kishtwar district jail while hovering over it, officials said.
An investigation was underway into the drone crash that occurred around 5:35pm at the highly fortified Kishtwar jail housing 101 inmates, 25 of them suspected militants.
“Jail Superintendent informed us about crash of drone. We reached that spot with experts and seized the gadget for further investigation,” said Shakti Kumar Pathak, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kishtwar.
“It is a small sized drone and not looking so sophisticated but it has a camera fitted in it and it hovered over jail premises, so we have to take it seriously,” Pathak said, adding investigators were looking at all possible angles.
Jail Superintendent, Muhammad Iqbal, said that drone crashed against one of the watchtowers of the jail and fell down.
“The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel manning the watchtowers immediately cordoned the area and informed the senior jail officials and the police,” said Iqbal.
