Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, BJP state spokesperson on Kashmir Affairs on Tuesday that said the quality roads and traffic rules observation can bring a sea change in the accident scenario in the state.
While interacting with the youth at the party headquarters,Chrungoo said that during his tours to various parts of the state and also tosome far flung areas in both the regions of Jammu and Kashmir, it was observedthat the road connectivity issue is far from satisfactory.
“Roads particularly in far flung areas are not only asubject of neglect but the vagaries of weather have also been cruel to them,”Chrungoo said.
He said that the district authorities should periodicallyvisit the interior areas and check the inter-district and intra-district roadconnectivity issues at regular intervals.
Chrungoo further said that the administrative traditions offollow up at different tiers of governance have since been given a “go bye” dueto one pretext or the other.
“There is a need to take a special drive to make anassessment and evaluation of the roads and road connectivity issues by theconcerned authorities on priority,” the BJP leader said.
He also appealed the traffic authorities to gear up and makeit sure that the vehicles are not allowed overload and all those vehiclesplying on roads as public transport are regularly checked and updatedtechnically.
In far flung areas, he said it is a common practice to allowdriving by every Tom, Dick and Harry.
Such a situation coupled with rash driving and filling rooftops of the plying mini buses in hilly areas is alarming, said Chrungoo.
He said that the Health Department also needs to guide theprimary health centres and the sub-district hospitals to train its staff foremergency situations on the National highway and the inter-district Statehighways.
