Farmers from RS Pura today on Sunday out a protest rally against three farm bills leading to the detention of several leaders including DDC member from Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony.
“We had taken out a peaceful protest rally from Bana Singh Stadium in RS Pura towards Jammu which was stopped by the police force midway near Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu),” said prominent social activist ID Khajuria, while saying that it was a huge “Kissan rally” with large numbers of tractors, four-wheelers and motorbikes.
Khajuria said that “The police had barricaded the road but many people passed away even after the attempts from police to stop the protest rally and many others led by DDC member Taranjit Singh Tonny sat on dharna near the SKUAST wherefrom they were detained by the police.”
He said that the protesting farmers blocked Satwari Chowk – which connects Jammu-Pathankot highway and leads towards Jammu Airport – for several hours.
Following protest demonstrations by the farmers at Satwari, he said, the police released the detained leaders including Narinder Singh, Jatinder Singh and others.
