Several NHM employees injured in police action

At least a dozen persons including some women were injured when police resorted to lathi-charge and fired smoke shells on National Health Mission (NHM) employees and foiled their Secretariat chalo march here this afternoon.

Carrying placards and shouting slogans, hundreds of NHM employees, demanding regularisation of their jobs assembled outside Directorate of Health and took out protest rally towards the Civil Secretariat.

   

On reaching near MLA Hostel Road, a huge contingent of police restricted them from heading towards the Civil Secretariat. The protestors and the police clashed during the protest, after which police resorted to lathi-charge and also fired chilly bombs and smoke shells to disperse the protestors.

As per reports, more that 12 NHM employees including some women sustained injuries in the cane-charge and admitted in Government Medical College And Hospital, Jammu.

The president of National Health Mission Employees Association (NHMEA) also received head injuries during the clash.

Meanwhile, traffic came to standstill in old city area due to the protest. All Panjtarthi bound minibuses and other vehicles were diverted, resulting in serious inconvenience to common people, particularly old-aged persons.
