Transporters serve ultimatum, threaten strike from Sept 20

All Jammu and Kashmir Transporters Welfare Association (AJKTWA) led by its chairman Sardar T S Wazir on Thursday served a 7-day ultimatum to state government to consider the genuine demands of the community.

“In case our demands are not met, all the transporters will start state wide strike from September 20,” Wazir said while addressing media men here.

Transporters across Jammu region are demanding increase in passenger fare.

Wazir said that in a recent meeting with transport commission Navin Kumar Choudhary, the transports unions apprised the former that the government increased only 8 percent in the passenger fare when the fuel price was Rs 68 per litre which he said was not adequate as compared to the present fuel rate i.e. Rs 75 per  litre.

He demanded 30 percent hike in the passenger fare as per present petroleum product rates.

Wazir served an ultimatum of 7 days to government to either increase the passenger fare or face agitation.
