Upscale preparatory mechanism to fight COVID-19: LG

The Lieutenant Governor (LG), GC Murmu Saturday convened a meeting to take stock of the preparedness in containing COVID-19.

This was the second high level meeting in two days to reviewthe status of preparedness for preventing the spread of Corona virus.

   

Kewal Kumar Sharma, Farooq Khan, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar,Baseer Ahmad Khan, Advisors to the LG; BVR Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary andadministrative secretaries of various departments attended the  meeting.

Director General J&K Police, Divisional Commissioners ofboth the divisions and Deputy Commissioners of all the districts attended themeeting through video conference.

The LG inquired about the arrangements made so far to tacklethe threat of COVID-19 and gave instructions in this regard for effectivepreventive and pre-emptive measures to senior officials across the UT.

The LG stated that raising awareness regarding theprecautions in small towns and villages must be done on war footing byinvolving religious leaders and Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs).

The LG asked Jammu Municipal Corporation to intensifysanitation and disinfection drive in the city so that any kind of risk in thewake of COVID-19 was mitigated.

He appealed people to make ‘Janta Curfew’ a success byobserving it in letter and spirit on March 22.

He urged people to encourage health care professionals,security personnel and other essential services staff fighting COVID-19, bymass clapping, ringing bells etc at 5 pm on March 22 as a mark of respect andmotivation.

To avoid rush and promote social distancing, the LG askedthe officers to motivate the grocers to establish a mechanism for home deliveryof grocery and other necessary commodities to minimize the risk.

The Deputy Commissioners were also directed to ensure smoothmovement of struck vehicles on Jammu-Srinagar highway, prioritising thevehicles carrying essential commodities and medicine facilities.

The PHE and PDD departments were directed for adequatedrinking water facility and uninterrupted power supply to the hospitals andquarantine centers.
