Vaid inaugurates 30th Road Safety Week

Transport Commissioner, S P Vaid today inaugurated 30th Road Safety Week organized by Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) J&K in collaboration with Traffic, Police Department, educational institutions and various stake holders.

Like other parts of the country 30th Road Safety Week is being observed on the theme “Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha”.

   

Addressing the gathering, commissioner exhorted upon the concerned departments that traffic law awareness camps should be organized in educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities for the benefit of students.

Vaid also said that main objective of observing this week is to spread road safety awareness among general masses in order to reduce the scale of fatal road accidents. He further stated that collective efforts would make a significant impact on the incidence of road accidents and help to remove the scourge of road accidents in the State.

Vice chancellor Jammu University, Prof M K Dhar, IGP Traffic, Alok Kumar, managing director, J&K State Road Transport Corporation, Dr. Manmohan Singh, director Postal Services, Gourav Srivastava, Regional Transport Officer Jammu, D R Knethia, other dignitaries, teachers and students of the various schools were present on the occasion.

While speaking on the occasion VC Jammu University stated that it is the moral responsibility of everyone living in society to spread message about the road safety measures.

RTO Jammu informed about the activities of included in week-long programme which includes road safety awareness, eye and health checkup, awareness programme for license seekers, poster/painting competition, bike rally and award ceremony.

Meanwhile, a series of awareness programmes about the road safety measures and traffic rules were today held across all the districts of Kashmir division as part of 30th road safety week, organized by Motor Vehicle Department with this year’s theme as Sadak Suraksha Jeewan Raksha.

At Pulwama deputy commissioner Pulwama G.M Dar today flagged off a rally in connection with 30th Road Safety Week celebrations at General Bus stand Drussu Pulwama. At Kulgam to stimulate Community involvement in promoting road safety awareness and to disseminate information about traffic rules deputy commissioner Kulgam Dr Shamim Ahmad Wani flagged- off a Tata maximoo passenger auto rally from Mini Secretariat with an aim to create awareness among masses. In this rally, around 30 tata Maximoo from different parts of the district participated.

At Ganderbal to make people more aware of the traffic rules and to persuade them to follow rules while on road, a colourful rally was flagged off by the District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Dr. Piyush Singla from Mini-Secretariat Ganderbal to Nagbal with an aim to sensitize people about the importance of following traffic rules to prevent road accidents in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, DDC said that during the week-long programme, people will be encouraged about how to drive on road by organizing variety of programmes related to the road safety. Similar programs were held at Shopian, Bandipora, Anantnag, Kargil, Leh and Baramulla.
