National Conference leader Muhammad Akbar Lone on Saturday asked the government why a non-state subject, Anuj Malhotra, has been appointed as an advisor in the traffic department.

Asking the government to explain under which law was Malhotra appointed, Lone said, “The appointment was made to rehabilitate the RSS agent”.

“Wasn’t anyone else available in the state for the same job ?” Lone said.

Transport minister Sunil Sharma said Malhotra has been not given any job but appointed as an advisor for one year.

“His term can be extended if needed,” the minister said.

Another NC lawmaker, Altaf Wani, said the transport department has been incurring losses by providing several vehicles to each of the vice-chairmen of various corporations.

“An elected MLA is given only one vehicle but the transport department has allotted four to five vehicles to the VCs of these corporations,” he said.

Lone and Wani were speaking during a discussion on the grants for transport department. Ruling PDP MLA Farooq Andrabi expressed concern over harassment of drivers who are “fleeced by the police manning roads.”
