Will boycott Assembly polls if M-Form for Pandit voters stays: NC Minority Cell

Anguished over cumbersome process of voter registration for displaced Kashmiri Pandit community, the National Conference Minority Cell has said that it will boycott upcoming Assembly elections if the government persists with M-form for migrant voters settled in other parts of the state.

“Government has laiddown a very complicated procedure for registration of voters through M-forms,which ultimately leads to non-participation of migrant voters in the electoralprocess,” MK Yogi, president NC Miniorty cell, told Greater Kashmir.

“The registration through M-form is a joke on our democraticsystem. We demand registration procedure should be simplified and there shouldbe photo identity card system for migrants like other voters,” he said.

Yogi said “there were nearly about 7.5  lakh Kashmiri Pandit voters registered withthe state election department in 1990, which has gradually decreased to a fewthousands”.

“Instead of asking the voters to fill up M-forms, thegovernment should have opened polling stations in every zonal office where themigrants are registered because the entire data of migrants is available at thezonal offices,” he said.
