Won’t tolerate anti-national activities in House: Speaker

The Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today said that “anti-national activities in the House won’t be tolerated” and all options are being explored as to what kind of action could be taken against the former Speaker and the National Conference (NC) MLA Akbar Lone for raising pro-Pakistan slogans in the House.

The Speaker said that whatever be the circumstances, such “anti-national” acts in the House by anybody won’t be tolerated.

“Yes, the Chair has taken a strong notice of the anti-national activity i.e. pro-Pak slogans being raised by NC member Akbar Lone in the House and we are contemplating as to what kind of action can be taken in the matter,” Kavinder Gupta told Greater Kashmir.

He added, “All options are being explored in consultations with the experts to see as to what action can be taken in the matter”. Pertinently, the NC member raised pro-Pak slogans in the House when the BJP members were raising anti-Pak slogans to lodge their protest against militant attack at Sunjwan Army camp.

Meanwhile, the state BJP has demanded that the NC member be expelled from the Legislative Assembly. In a statement issued here, BJP state general secretary DrNarinder Singh said, “The real face of NC is exposed and Akbar Lone should be expelled from the House for raising pro-Pak slogans”.   Dr Singh asked National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah to explain to the nation as to why did MLA’s feelings get hurt when “our security forces are fighting proxy war waged by Pakistan and slogans are raised against Pakistan.” Dr Singh also demanded that NC must take stern action and expel Akbar Lone from the primary membership of the party to prove its nationalistic and secular credentials.
