Taking Jammu and Kashmir Police head on, independent legislator Engineer Rasheed on Friday said “it (police) must wake up its conscience and stop committing atrocities on people”.

Amid heavy downpour, Rasheed held a protest in Srinagar where he made comments about the state police.

“Today’s protest is a token protest just to wake up the conscience of Jammu and Kashmir police who have been committing atrocities like anything on our students including female students, while whole world is crying for Kathua victim” said Rasheed.

Raising questions over disallowing protests in Kashmir, he said: “Why is only in Kashmir that those who have suffered? We are not being allowed to take peaceful marches on streets. Today’s protests are to tell JK police that you belong to us and once you retire from your services you have to come back to your own people”.

Rashid also asked police to allow students to take out protests.

“We want to appeal Jammu and Kashmir police ‘no inflict atrocities’ for God’s sake. Don’t fire pellets at people. Those students of colleges and universities who come on roads to protest don’t have issue of their own homes. They don’t demand jobs. They don’t want anything from you. They just want justice should be done with people of Kashmir…,” he said.
