10 CRPF troopers injured in grenade attack

As many as 10 CRPF troopers were injured in a grenade attack by militants in Anantnag town on Tuesday morning.

A police official said that at about 3am, militants hurled a grenade on a CRPF camp near JanglatMandi locality of the town.

   

“The CRPF men retaliated with fire but the militants managed to flee,” he said.

The injured troopers were treated for splinter injuries at the district hospital Anantnag.

After the attack, police, CRPF and army launched searches to nab the attackers.

This was the second grenade attack in the town in a week. Militants had attacked a police post in Sherbagh, but there were no injuries.

Earlier, violent clashes broke out between youth and government forces in old town areas which continued throughout the night.

A group of youths had attacked police post Sherbagh with stones. Police reinforcement was sent to the area to control the clashes, which continued till early Tuesday morning.

JAISH CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY 

Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed the grenade attack, claiming they killed two CRPF men and injured 10 others.
