10th class results declared, 75% pass

The J&K Board of School Education (BOSE) Friday declared the result of class 10th annual examination 2020 with an overall pass percentage of 75 – boys 74.04 and girls 76.09.

The exam was held in mid-November last year.

   

The BOSE figures reveal that girls have outshined the boys in the result. As many as 75,132 students – 38,340 boys and 36,792 girls had enrolled for the exam of which 56,384 qualified the test. A total of 18,626 students did not qualify the exam.

The government had announced 40 percent relaxation in the syllabus for examination due to COVID-19 outbreak. The students were given choice to attempt 60 percent of the questions from the paper.

The BOSE has not issued the list of toppers. For the last few years, the board has replaced the merit list with grading system awarding different grades to the students on the basis of their performance in the exam.

The figures produced by the board show that 9421 students have qualified in A1 grade, 11347 in A2, 11050 in B1, 10974 in B2, 9239 in C1, 4239 in C2 and 155 in D-grade.

The pass percentage of government schools has been recorded as 62.76 as out of 41,026 students who appeared in the exam, only 25,749 qualified.

The pass percentage of private schools is 89.82 as out of 34,106 students who wrote the exam, 30,635 qualified.

POOR PERFORMING SCHOOLS

While dozens of government schools have produced over 80 percent result in the class 10th exams, as many as 126 government schools have failed to produce above 30 percent results.

Around 12 government schools which have produced zero percent results include four in Srinagar, three in Baramulla, two in Anantnag and one each in Bandipora and Kulgam and Kupwara districts.

Also, 44 government schools have failed to produce above 20 percent results while the pass percentage of around 70 schools is between 20 and 30 per cent.
