11.63 per cent polling in two Lok Sabha seats in JK till 1 pm; Pulwama records 1.51% and Shopian 2.25%

Nearly 12 per cent turnout was recorded in two Lak Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir till 1 pm on Monday, officials said.

While Leh and Kargil recorded 20.38 and 51.26 percentturnout respectively, the turnout was dismal in Pulwama and Shopian. Pulwamarecorded 1.51 per cent turnout and Shopian 2.25 per cent during this time.

   

Enthusiastic voters started pouring out to throng thepolling stations in Leh and Kargil districts.

In contrast, most of the polling stations wore a desertedlook in Shopian and Pulwama districts where polling is being held in the thirdand final phase of Anantnag Lok Sabha seat.

Polling started at 7 a.m. in both the Lok Sabha seats, butit will end at 4 p.m. in Anantnag constituency and 6 p.m. in Ladakhconstituency.

In Ladakh, the contest is four-cornered between JamyangTsering Namgyal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rigzin Spalbar of theCongress and two independents, Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai and Sajjad Hussain.

There are 18 candidates in fray in Anantnag, but the maincontest is between Mehbooba Mufti of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), GhulamAhmad Mir of Congress and Justice (retired) Hasnain Masoodi of the NationalConference. The votes will be counted on May 23.
