11 injured in Srinagar grenade blast| Jaish claims responsibility

At least eleven people including four policemen, three central reserve police force personnel and four civilians sustained injuries after suspected militants tossed a grenade at a CRPF camp in Srinagar’s LalChowk area on Sunday evening.

A CRPF spokesman in Srinagar Sanjay Sharma told Greater Kashmir that at around 6.45 pm, militants hurled a grenade at the 132 battalion of the force stationed at Palladium in LalChowk. “Three CRPF men including an assistant sub-inspector were injured in the attack,” he said. 

   

A police spokesman said four policemen and four civilians, including two women, also received injuries in the blast and were evacuated to the general specialty SMHS hospital.

“All the injured persons are stable,” he said.

According to a source, the injured policemen were identified as Ashiq Ahmed, Abid Ahmed, Muhammad Shafi, and Nasir Ahmed while as the wounded CRPF men were identified as ASI R Munaswami, constable Vishal and constable Davinder of the 132 battalion.

The injured civilians were identified as Humaira wife of Sajad Ahmed Baba of Harwan (Srinagar), Abdul Qayoom of Mandibal, Nowshera (Srinagar), TalibaGulsan, wife of Ifthikar Ahmed of Dalgate (Srinagar) and Shadab Shah of Nishat (Srinagar).

Soon after the attack, the police said the area has been cordoned off and massive searches have been launched to nab the attackers.  Later, it was found that a private vehicle bearing registration number HR3675395 also suffered damage due the intensity of the blast, while another vehicle also suffered minor damage in the explosion, an official said.

JAISH CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY 

Militant outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad claimed responsibility for the grenade blast. News gathering agency GNS quoted a JeM spokesperson Mohammad Hassan as saying in a statement. “Seven CRPF personnel were injured in the attack, which was carried out by Jaish-e-Muhammad’s Afzal Guru squad.”
