12 CUK Deptts shifted to Ganderbal: MHRD

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has stated that 12 out of 16 teaching departments of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) have been shifted to district Ganderbal.

This was revealed in a written reply to the question raisedby National Conference (NC) member parliament Hasnain Masoodi during thequestion hour session of the Parliament.

   

The HRD minister in a written reply stated that CUK hasstarted its operations from the allotted site at Tulmulla, Ganderbal by shiftingthree departments in the first instance.

“Besides, nine departments have been already shifted todistrict Ganderbal within a radius of three to four kilometres from main site.The departments are housed in old buildings provided by the state government,”reads the reply.

The MHRD has stated that only four departments arefunctioning in rented campuses from Nowgam, Srinagar outskirts.

Earlier, the varsity was functioning from rentedaccommodations in four campuses including three in Nowgam and one in Sonwararea of Srinagar. However, from March last year, the varsity administrationbegan shifting of its departments to Ganderbal in phases.

To enable the shifting, the divisional administration hasprovided available accommodation in old IT1 building, old building of districthospital, CMO building, old building of Physical Education Hostel till the owncampus of the University gets completed.

The MHRD in its reply stated that the government hasapproved financial assistance of Rs. 381.68 crore through higher educationfinancing agency (HEFA) to complete the pending construction projects of theCUK. “The University has to approach HEFA Board to get the fund released tothem,” reads the written reply.
