Jammu and Kashmir police Sunday claimed to have arrested 15 timber smugglers during nocturnal raids at Cherhaar forest in the upper reaches of Sopore.
Police said the detained smugglers are involved in a numberof forest smuggling cases in Kandi forest range of Sopore.
Giving details, a police officer said that acting on atip-off and following the cases registered by the forest department againstthese smugglers, police conducted raid at Cherhaar village in Sopore around3am. “During the raid 15 people involved in different cases of timber smugglingwere arrested.” The officer said a case under relevant law has been registeredand further investigation initiated.
