17 arrested for violating restriction orders

Police on Thursday said it arrested 17 persons for violating orders for restriction on public movement in twin districts of Pulwama and Ganderbal.

A police statement said 14 persons were arrested for violating restriction orders and offering prayers in Gade Mohalla Masjid in Awantipora town of Pulwama, despite clear orders from district magistrate and several announcements by police for offering prayers at home only.

A case (FIR number 38/2020) has been registered at police station Awantipora.

Superintendent of Police, Awantipora, Tahir Saleem urged people to follow the health Government advisories to control the spread of Covid-19.

Meanwhile police said it arrested three persons for Ganderbal for organising a community feast in violation of prohibitory orders under section 144 criminal procedure code.

A police official said a team from police station Ganderbal arrested the trio from Malpora area of Ganderbal for organising the feast.

SSP Ganderbal Khalil Poswal appealed people to stay home and avoid such programmes for safety of people under the present circumstances.
