19 vote in the only contested Ward in Watergam

Nineteen persons turned out to vote in elections Wednesday to the Municipal Committee Watergam in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district at the end of the second phase of municipal elections, officials said.

The turnout amounted to seven percent of the total electorate of 270.

Only one Ward out of 13 went to polls with a contest between an independent and a BJP candidate. Eight were elected unopposed, while no nominations were received for four Wards.

The entire area of Watergam witnessed heavy security measures on polling day.

Media persons were not allowed inside the polling booth, despite possessing valid permission from the authorities.
