2 booked under PSA in Shopian

Intensifying their crackdown on Jamaat-e-Islami cadre, authorities on Friday booked an engineer and a principal of a Jamaat run private school under Public Safety Act in south Kashmir’s Shopian district

A police official said that Manzoor Ahmad Itoo and MubashirAhmad Rather, residents of Durpora, Zainpora and Awneera villages of thedistrict respectively were slapped with Public Safety Act and shifted to KotBhalwal Jail in Jammu.

   

While Itoo, a junior engineer was the “basic member” ofrecently proscribed Jamaat-e-Islamai, Rather was the principal of theShah-I-Hamdan, a high school run by Jamaat’s Falah-e-Aam trust, the officialsaid.

He said they were booked for “resorting to unlawful activities”.

However, according to the family members and localresidents, “Itoo was not associated with the Jamaat.”

Family members of Rather said that he was picked up bypolice a month ago from his residence during an overnight raid.

“He was first lodged in Zainpora police station andthen shifted to district jail Pulwama,” said a family member of Rather,adding that they were not provided with a copy of dossier.

Hundreds activists of socio-religious organisationJamaat-e-Islamia, many religious leaders and youth were detained bygovernment  forces  over past one month in fourdistricts–Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama–of south Kashmir  while some of them were slapped with PublicSafety Act.
