Police on Sunday claimed to have solved three recent burglary cases here by arresting two persons who they alleged had committed all the three burglaries in the town.
In a statement police said that during the interveningSaturday-Sunday night, while patrolling in main town Sopore police party ofPolice Station Sopore managed to get hold of the burglars red-handed along withtheir stolen items.
The officials said the burglars were ferrying the stolenitems in a load carrier, when they were stopped by the police for normalquestioning.
Due to their suspicious behavior, the two were asked to cometo police station for questioning, while the driver of the vehicle namelyFirdous Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Jalalabad Sopore gave in, however, hisassociate managed to give the police a slip due to darkness, the official said.
After search of about eight hours, the other accused wasalso arrested who revealed his name as Imtiyaz Ah Siraj r/o Shahabad Sopore,said the officials.
The police said that after sustained questioning the duoconfessed to their crimes and their involvement in other similar cases ofburglaries which took place on 01 April 2020 and 05 April 2020 in which around70 bags of onion and 100 boxes of eggs were stolen.
It was also revealed during questioning that they used tosell the stolen items to vendors in different villages of Sopore and Baramullatowns, the police said.
