2 day GK Free Medical, Surgical camp concludes in Leh

The Greater Kashmir Medical Trust (GKMT) in collaboration with Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam (AMI) and SNM hospital Leh organised two day free medical and surgical camp and also inaugurated the GKMT diagnostic laboratory.

   

The event concluded on October 4 with a formal closing ceremony which was attended by chief executive councillor (CEC) of Ladakh Hill Development Council Dorjey Motup, executive councillors Mumtaz and Wangdus and many others.

The chairman GKMT Fayaz Kaloo, President AMI Dr Abdul Qayum, CMO Leh Dr Motup Dorjay, Dr M Saleem Wani, Dr Showkat Ali  Zargar, Dr Parvaiz Kaul, Dr Peerzada Sajad from Srinagar and prominent doctors from SNM hospital were also present on the occasion.

During the ceremony the CEC appreciated and lauded the efforts of GKMT in dedicating the ‘state  of art’ clinical diagnostic laboratory to the people of Leh apart from organising free surgical and medical camp. He also felicitated the chairman GKMT Fayaz Kaloo on the occasion.

Prior to this, all the delegates and guests were welcomed by chief executive officer GKMT Abid Ahmed Banday. In his welcome address he spoke about the mission and vision of the GKMT.

He mentioned that this initiative with AMI will serve the humanity in many ways. Abid on behalf of chairman GKMT proposed to CEC Leh that GKMT will sponsor short term refresher courses to Doctors and paramedical staff of SNM hospital in future.

The keynote speech was delivered by President AMI Dr Abdul Qayum and he highlighted the future social and health care fortifying strategies of AMI for the people of Leh and adjoining areas. In his speech he lauded the efforts of GKMT and the doctors from Srinagar and SNM Hospital who actively participated in the camp.

Dr M Saleem Wani delivered a power point presentation on kidney transplantation titled “kidney transplantation current scenario and way forward” and deliberated on the live renal transplantation and cadaver transplantation program. He made people aware of the cadaver transplantation and stressed the awareness of the medical fraternity and the general public towards achieving this objective.

He  was highly appreciative of effective and efficient patient care delivered by SNM hospital staff, particularly the medical superintendent and the chief Anesthetist Dr Tsering Morup and his team. While sharing his experiences at the hospital, he appreciated the intra operative and  post operative care provided to the patients under the guidance of chief anesthetics Dr Tsering Morup and senior Surgeon specialist Dr Tashi Motup.

Dr. Motup Dorjey CMO Leh appreciated the role of GKMT and AMI in organising free medical and surgical camp apart from opening the clinical laboratory.

In his speech he extended his cooperation for all future endeavours and hoped that this laboratory would  be a state of art laboratory and be used as the reference laboratory. 

He also thanked the doctors from Srinagar and other staff of SNM hospital.

Dr Showkat Zargar also appreciated the efforts of GKMT and AMI for dedicating Lab to the people of Ladakh. He also praised the doctors and paramedical staff of SNM hospital. He stressed augmenting the capacity of the hospital through refresher courses for the hospital staff and immediate rectification of minor faults in the existing equipment.

Zayed Zidane, Bureau chief GK  Leh deliverd vote of thanks and thanked one and all who actively participated in the event and made it a huge success.

Earlier the medical and surgical camp was conducted by the renowned doctors of the state including Dr Showkat Ali Zargar, former director SKIMS, Dr M Saleem Wani, Head departments of Urology and Kidney Transplant Unit SKIMS, Dr Parvaiz Koul, Head department of internal Medicine and pulmonary Medicine, SKIMS and Dr Sajad Peerzada, senior consultant radiology, Srinagar.

Dr Wani performed five surgeries during the camp and provided consultation to 150 patients. Dr Zargar performed 28 endoscopies and provided consultation to 150 patients. Dr Koul provided consultation to 150 patients and Dr Peerzada performed 80 ultrasonographies.
