2 killed, 3 injured in Kupwara road accident

Two persons including a teenage girl were killed and three other members of the family injured in a road accident in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday.

Police said that the accident took place at Kralpora Bridge when a white coloured Maruti Alto vehicle (HR51-7420) they were travelling in fell into a flowing stream, resulting in the death of the 19-year-old girl and injuries to four other family members.

   

“Initial reports suggest that the driver of the vehicle lost control over the wheel due to slippery road conditions,” Police said.

It said that the girl Usma Iqbal, 19, daughter of Muhammad Iqbal Bhat of Rashanpora succumbed to her injuries on way to a hospital while Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, 55, son of Muhammad Abdullah Bhat, Bashir Ahmad Beigh, 45, son of Ghulam Hassan Beigh, Asif Ahmad Bhat, 20, son of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Jabeena Begum, 40, wife of Farooq Ahmad Bhat all residents of Rashanpora were rushed to Sub-district Hospital Kralpora where after primary treatment doctors referred them to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for advanced treatment but one of the injured Muhammad Maqbool Bhat succumbed to his injuries.

The family was on way to Srinagar to visit an ailing young relative.
