2 LeT militants arrested from Srinagar: Police

Jammu Police issues statement to dispel 'misinformation' regarding death of person in custody

Police on Sunday said it arrested two active militants and five militant associates from different districts of Kashmir.

A statement said on a credible input,police along with other security forces intercepted a militant-borne Santrovehicle (Registration No JK13C-0941) on Barzulla-Chanapora road here.

   

“While checking the vehicle with twopersons on board, officers were able to recover arms and ammunition from theirpossession. They have been identified as Vakeel Ahmed Bhat @Abu Zarrar and OmarIsmail Das – both residents of Bijbehara, Anantnag,” said the statement.

The statement said the duo was activemilitants affiliated with the LeT.  “Bothof them have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain incustody,” said the statement. “Incriminating materials including arms andammunition recovered from their possession has been seized and taken intorecords in order to probe their complicity in other crimes.”

The statement said a case (FIR No 40/2020)has been registered at police station, Saddar here. “Further investigation inthe matter is in progress,” said the statement.

A separate statement said four militantassociates were arrested from Budgam and arms and ammunition was recovered fromtheir possession.

The statement said on a credible input,police along with security forces arrested the associates identified as MuzamilNabi, Umer Ajaz – both residents of Kanihama, Rouf Bhat and Ishfaq Bhat – bothresidents of Kantebagh SK Pora and recovered “incriminating materials”including arms and ammunition from their possession.

“As per the investigations, they wereinvolved in providing logistic support and shelter to the active militantsoperating in Magam, Budgam,” said the statement. “A case under relevantsections has been registered in police station Magam and further investigationis in progress.”

Another statement said police arrested anassociate of LeT outfit in Ganderbal. The arrested person has been identifiedas Fayaz Ahmed Bhat of Akhal, Kangan.

The statement said the accused was involvedin assisting militants of the outfit operating in Ganderbal. “As per theinvestigations, he was involved in providing logistic support and shelter tothe active militants of the outfit, operating in the areas of Ganderbal,besides transporting militants from one district to another district,” said thestatement. “Moreover he was also involved in lobbing grenade on police station,Kangan regarding which a case stands registered.”

The statement said “incriminating material”including ammunition has recovered from his possession. “A case has beenregistered at police station Gund. Incriminating materials recovered from hispossession have been taken into records to probe his complicity in crimes,”said the statement.
