‘2 LeT OGWs arrested from Pattan’

Police on Saturday said it arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Lashkar-e-Toiaba militant from Pattan area of this district.

A senior police official identified the arrested persons asShowkat Ahmad Mir, alias Showkat Molvi of Wussan village in Pattan and ShowkatAhmad Yatoo of Chanderhama village of Pattan.

   

“The two were providing logistics to two active militants ofLeT outfit, Saleem Parray of Hajin and Abu Zargar of Pakistan. Policeimmediately swung into action and arrested the duo on Friday,” said theofficial.

He said they were involved in “motivating youths to joinmilitancy and sending them to Pakistan on valid visa for receiving armstraining.”

“They were also involved in recruiting two missing boys fromWussan and Andergam villages of Patten, in the militancy,” said the official.

“Showkat Ahmad Mir was previously also booked. However, thistime he was an active member of LeT and along with Showkat Ahmad Yatoo wasassigned job of transporting Lashkar cadre from one place to another besidesproviding them logistic support,” said another police official.

Terming the arrest as “success”, the police official saidthe sustained interrogation of the duo revealed that an engineering student ofWussan, identified as Abid Qayoom Lone, who went missing few weeks ago was”motivated and sent by them to Pakistan for arms training through Wagah borderon the pretext of seeking admission in a medical college in Pakistan.”

“In 2018, they managed to send four persons, two each fromnorth and south Kashmir, to Pakistan on valid visas. After receiving armstraining, both are now active militants of the LeT outfit” said SSP Baramulla,Abdul Qayoom.

The official said they recovered a pistol, a magazine andsix rounds, one grenade, one AK 47 magazine and some rounds from the arrestedpersons.
